Hot Fuzz Opening

The Hot Fuzz opening is one of my favourite openings, this is because it instantly sets the mood for the audience and in my opinion it also hooks people in. The opening scene shows a extreme long shot of the main character (Sgt. Angel) walking with purpose up to the camera and intorducing himself. The good things about havinbg this as the opening shot is that it makes the audience feel involved as the character looks directly into the lense and speaks to you.

Once he starts introducing himself the picture changes and we seem Sgt Angel in Police school working his way up the ranks and taking part in various different activities including cycling, driving, chess and running. We can tell from the way the characted speaks that he is extremly focused on his job and is quite a perfectionist in terms of his police work. We also see a clip of him being stabbed by someone in a Santa outfit, this not only adds humour to the film but it also maintains the hard cop image.

Once he has fully introduced him we see a medium shot of Sgt Angel sitting down in front of a Police Officer and being told that he must move to the country. This scene is a very funny scene as it shows 3 different people asking Sgt Angel the same question about hand and then explaining that he is too good and that he will put them out of the job. The audience can now clearly see that Sgt Angel doesnt want to move and he is happy working in London. This first scene contains lots and lots of reaction shots, this is good way of creating humour.

Kevin And Perry Opening

I looked at the opening of Kevin And Perry goes large and i found that the director used a much different style of filming to the opening of Saving Private Ryan. In this opening we see Anne Boleyn walking up stairs to be executed, then before the executor chops decapitates her he she offers him oral sex and her live is spared. As soon as the audience sees this they automatically get a sence of what the whole film is going to be about.

Midway through the oral sex scene the picture fades out and we come to a low angle shot of Kevin (Harry Enfield) dreaming and fantasising. This is also a indication that the film will be of a comedy nature. Kevin is a typical hormonal teenager who wears tshirts, shorts and a hat. In his bedroom we see Kevin answering back to his parents and being generally rude towards them. After this the audience gets their first glimpse of Perry, we see a long distance shotof him and Kevin walking through a shopping mall together. Intantly we see that Kevin in the higher figure of the duo and that he makes most of the decisions and that Perry copies him alot. During th emall scene we see Kevin wearing his coat inside out and claming that he doesnt conform to regular dress codes, Perry then imitates this gesture by turing his inside out too, this makes the audience realise that the duo are not the smartest people ever.
