The Hot Fuzz opening is one of my favourite openings, this is because it instantly sets the mood for the audience and in my opinion it also hooks people in. The opening scene shows a extreme long shot of the main character (Sgt. Angel) walking with purpose up to the camera and intorducing himself. The good things about havinbg this as the opening shot is that it makes the audience feel involved as the character looks directly into the lense and speaks to you.
Once he starts introducing himself the picture changes and we seem Sgt Angel in Police school working his way up the ranks and taking part in various different activities including cycling, driving, chess and running. We can tell from the way the characted speaks that he is extremly focused on his job and is quite a perfectionist in terms of his police work. We also see a clip of him being stabbed by someone in a Santa outfit, this not only adds humour to the film but it also maintains the hard cop image.
Once he has fully introduced him we see a medium shot of Sgt Angel sitting down in front of a Police Officer and being told that he must move to the country. This scene is a very funny scene as it shows 3 different people asking Sgt Angel the same question about hand and then explaining that he is too good and that he will put them out of the job. The audience can now clearly see that Sgt Angel doesnt want to move and he is happy working in London. This first scene contains lots and lots of reaction shots, this is good way of creating humour.
